Step 4 - Preparing to return EHL

If you reach this stage is that your application to the hotel school was accepted. Congratulations! Now you can begin your preparations for the autumn.


EHL is relatively specific in many areas, some areas to consider with care:

- Laptop .

However, the rooms being double, you will live in a small space with a / a roommate (girls and boys separated). This can be a very positive experience as somewhat negative, you see if you like living in a community. For my part, I do not regret having taken a room on campus!


- Parking .
If you own a car, you will be able to reserve a parking space around the school. Remember to take early because their number is limited. EHL has an underground car park and several outdoor places, more or less remote rooms class (maximum 5 minutes walk). The rental price varies according to the desired location.


- Clothing .
As the school imposes a dress code of 7:00 a.m. to 7:15 p.m., you will get enough outfits for rotation without spending your time at the launderette. In this connection, the school offers several washing machines use very modern thanks to a rechargeable magnetic card but does not provide board or iron. Therefore, you will equip you in your room to do your ironing (or go squat in your classmates better organized :-)). The preparatory year

Winters are relatively rigorous in the region, also plan to bring warm clothes (jackets, coats, sweatshirts, wool sweaters, caps, gloves, etc.)..


For the rest, use common sense and follow the instructions given to you in emails that you receive after confirming your bid. In any case, Switzerland is a civilized country (at least I hope), you can always purchase the missing equipment on site.

Step 3 - Pass the entrance examination

After the first evaluation, as explained in previous section, you will be invited to a selection day in the Hotel School in Lausanne or in one of the cities around the world selected by the school. The details of this day can be found on the official website .


In general, here are the steps by which I passed during my day of admission:

1. Interview with a committee of the school.

For me, it was the first business day after breakfast. The committee consisted of a teacher, Mr. Lawrence (Professor of tableware, better known in the first year for his theory on socks "business"), and a final year student.
We talked for about 30min of different topics as my career goals, my personal interests, world news, my vision, etc.. Overall, this interview was the way to get to know me beyond my file to have a "feeling" of my state of mind.
For these purposes, feel free to talk! The committee will want to learn new things about you and you feel motivated, alive. Show them your desire.

2. RPG .
The purpose of this step is how you conduct yourself in a situation. You will be given a topic on which you can work for about 15min. For my part, I had to play the role of an assistant manager of a hotel in the event of a conflict between a server and a couple of client. A student of the school, specially prepared for the occasion, played the role of the server with whom I was discussing the incident.
course, you are not asked to handle the situation with the knowledge you possess. The important thing is to show that you are able to express yourself calmly, listen to the person in front you and follow the instructions. In my case it was asked to find a solution to the problem in the allotted time (about 10min), so I hitched myself to enter into concrete actions, responding to instructions.

3. Tests analytical and quantitative computer .
These tests consist of two distinct parts. Largely resembles the first exercises that can be found in an IQ test in the type series of symbols in which it is asked to find the error.
The second part is more mental arithmetic and logic. Based on data tables, you are asked to answer questions multiple choice. For example, you can fall on a count of hours of a business and you will be asked if so and so has more or less than 20% of the hours of another employee. The goal is to correctly answer many questions as possible in the allotted time. You will be entitled to a calculator for this step.
Although many people worry about the results of these tests, keep in mind that your personality or your educational background count significantly. Try to do the best you can without taking too much head.

5. Visit the campus .

Finally, here are some general tips that will help you:

- Because every time you enter the perimeter of the EHL, as students or applicants, you must follow the dress code . Do not hesitate to dress like a job interview in a suit and tie for men and business suit for women. Take care of your shave and your hair cut because such details will not escape the eye of the expert members of the EHL. You'll soon realize that everyone is dressed like you on campus and this will help you feel in your place.

- Set aside your potential timidity. One of the highlights of the school is located in the multi-culturalism of its members and their ability to communicate effectively. Also, try to embody the student you want to become, whether for your entrance exams or during breaks in common with other applicants. This day is your best chance to shine, enter here.

- Be confident and honest. Although nothing is played, if you arrived at this stage is that your case is interesting, it remains only to embody the person you've described.

Approximately one month after that day (the delay will be communicated by the school), you receive an email assigning it to one of 3 categories below:

- Direct admission . If you belong to this group, your application has been validated and you can enter the EHL next fall.

- Refusal . You will be notified of the reasons why your application was refused and asked to represent you next year.
